The STARZ Original series "Ash vs Evil Dead" began production this month in New Zealand on the 10-episode first season of the half-hour series executive produced by Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert, Bruce Campbell, the original filmmakers of the franchise, and Craig DiGregorio who will serve as executive producer and showrunner. "Ash vs Evil Dead" is the long-awaited follow-up to the classic horror film franchise The Evil Dead and is set to premiere on STARZ in fall 2015. Campbell will be reprising his role as Ash, the stock boy, aging lothario and chainsaw-handed monster hunter who has spent the last 30 years avoiding responsibility, maturity and the terrors of the Evil Dead. When a Deadite plague threatens to destroy all of mankind, Ash is finally forced to face his demons -personal and literal. Destiny, it turns out, has no plans to release the unlikely hero from its "Evil" grip.PRINCIPAL CAST INFORMATION:· Bruce Campbell as Ash· Dana DeLorenzo as Kelly Maxwell· Jill Marie Jones as Amanda Fisher· Lucy Lawless as Ruby· Mimi Rogers as Suzy Maxwell· Ray Santiago as Pablo Simon BolivarCREW INFORMATION:· Aaron Lam as PROD· Bruce Campbell as EP· Ivan Raimi as CRTR/CO-EP· Rob Tapert as EP· Sam Raimi as CRTR/EP/DIR (Pilot)· Tom Spezialy as CRTR/EP
It’ll be a double celebration tonight on Hollywood Boulevard for director/executive producer Sam Raimi, Bruce Campbell, Lucy Lawless and the rest of the Ash Vs. Evil Dead gang. Not only will they be whooping it up at the Starz series’ red-carpet premiere at the Chinese Theater with a performance by Iggy Pop, but they’ll also probably be pulling the chainsaw cord in joy over being picked up for a second season.Just days before the October 31 debut of the 10-episode series based on the Evil Dead movie franchise, the premium cabler today said the show will be back for another round. “One season isn’t enough to satisfy the fans’ two-decade-long appetite for more Ash,” said Starz managing director Carmi Zlotnik. “The early fan and press support, along with the international broadcaster demand for more story, have made it clear that the adventures of Ash Williams can’t end with Season 1.” Season 2 of Ash Vs. Evil Dead is expected to air in late 2016.No official word on how many episodes the second season will be, but I’m hearing it is likely to be as at least as long as Season 1’s 10-episodes. Among the cast, we know for sure Campbell will obviously be returning as Ash and Lawless will be back as the mysterious Ruby. Raimi, Robert Tapert and Campbell will be back as exec producers as will Craig DiGregorio, who will continue as showrunner.
